This newly constructed InterContinental hotel is the second to be built in Bangkok, located in the prominent corner at the intersection of Sukhumvit Road and Sukhumvit 59, in one of the most bustling areas of the city, the Thonglor-Ekkamai area.
The hotel’s dark grey exterior is wrapped in a precast façade design that derived and simplified from traditional Thai textile patterns, infusing a local touch to this contemporary structure. This design ethos aligns with InterContinental’s own brand identity: ‘where international standard meets with local flavor’.
The hotel is designed with public interaction in its intent. The use of high visibility glass in key areas such as the All-day Dining area on the 3rd level and the Specialty Restaurant above the swimming pool on the 32nd level offers a great vantage point for those on the inside as well as the onlookers outside. This gives the public a visual engagement, a sneak peek into the hotel experience, creating an inviting atmosphere for passersby. The façade’s slant-cut shape at the pinnacle establishes an iconic landmark in the Thonglor-Ekkamai’s cityscape.
